After a successful shoot in rural Queensland, we’re two weeks into the Unsettled edit and excited to see this film taking shape. We’re delighted to be working with editor Sally Blenheim (Ruin 2013, The Island 2017). Keep your eyes peeled for a trailer dropping soon.

Phenomenom at Swan Hill Onion Growers
onions

In November we travelled up to Swan Hill to shoot another installment of Alice Zaslavsky’s online food education program Phenomenom! We interviewed third-generation vegetable growers Jake and Hope Shadbolt and their 3-legged blue heeler Frankie. We loved learning about the complicated process of growing and preparing onions for our consumption. The footage we shot will be part of Phenomenom’s next AgHeroes project which encourages students to consider a career in Agriculture.

Unsettled film
Sunset

Co-written by Katrina Channells and Joe Hinchliffe, Unsettled is a noir mystery set in rural Queensland. Along with a talented crew, Director Katrina Channells, producer Jemma Douglas and Cinematographer Amy Dellar ventured to the small town of Theebine, QLD for a six day shoot. It was a big production for a short film but thanks to our talented crew we pulled it off despite the heat and the bushfires! The cinematography is stunning and we can’t wait to start editing.

Cast and Crew

Film synopsis: “Something strange is afoot in the rural Queensland town of Theebine. Drought and fire ravage the land. Animals are behaving abnormally. Amid the heat and stress, dreams bleed into reality. As a young woman strives to bring her family farm back from the brink, a mysterious discovery will cause a rift between lovers, forcing one to take drastic action – from which there will be no going back.”

Speak of Country - second iteration Bega Valley
Gulaga Dancers
DjaDjawan Dancers

We returned to Yuin country in late 2019 to produce the second iteration of our Virtual Reality experience Speak of Country. This time the project was lead by Dan Morgan, Aboriginal Liaison at Local Land Services NSW. We’d like to extend a very gracious thank you to the communities of Wallaga Lake, Bega Valley and Narooma for welcoming us and for sharing their stories. We spent two weeks in the Bega Valley capturing creation stories from Uncle Warren Foster; learning from Aunty Ellen Mundy and Aunty Colleen Dixon what it was like to grow up in the area; and witnessing traditional dance with the Gulaga Dancers and the Dja Djawan Dancers. We shared some really special moments with community members and even headed out on a boat to meet the local whales! We’re now looking at exhibition opportunities for the Virtual Reality experiences - stay tuned. Thanks to our photographer Rhett Wyman for the beautiful pics.

The Bridge Video Day!
Kelly.jpg

It was so lovely to head out for our video shoot for The Bridge, an employment agency and disability services provider based in Melbourne’s south-east.

Brandon.jpg

We returned to some familiar faces from our photoshoot a few weeks earlier for a more in-depth look at their stories. We met with Anthony who explained his aspirations to one day run his own business; Kelly who showed off her water-ballet skills; and Brandon and his incredible artworks.

We then visited footy-mad Jason and his mum Nola at home to talk about how The Bridge helped them make the most of their NDIS funding; met one of the longest serving volunteers at The Bridge who keeps the operation running; and met with staff member Soula who’s Greek connection helped Anneta find employment.

Thanks to everyone involved this year - the people at The Bridge continue to make working together a pleasure!

The Bridge Photo Day!
Jason_Footy.png

We’ve just had a busy couple of days photographing the participants and employees at employment agency and disability service provider The Bridge. We started at their head office in Dandenong for a portrait session, visited a number of people at their jobs, photographed a variety of day service activities and met some awesome employers. We’ll head back in a few weeks to shoot the content for the videos.

Recently we partnered with Alice Zaslavsky to shoot an episode of her super fun program Phenomenom. The show’s a fun and fresh-take on food education of which we shot across two days. Alice was an absolute joy to work along side and we had a ball with both cast and crew working on the project.

We were thrilled to work with Yuin Nation storytellers on an immersive 360° virtual reality project in 2018. This project was funded by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage.

We’re producing a series of Virtual Reality experiences featuring four local Indigenous storytellers that capture the heart of the landscape, the people and the heritage sites of the Shoalhaven region on the south coast of NSW.

We’ve spent the last few months working with Noel Webster, Auntie Christine Blakeney, Vikki Parsley and Vic Channell. It was an honour to hear their stories and to produce them into 360° experiences.

We also ran a Virtual Reality training program for some creative and talented students from the region. We were blown away by their potential as filmmakers. www.speakofcountryVR/training
